Tenure Track Faculty Position(s)

Henry E. Allison Endowed Chair in the History of Philosophy

The University of California, San Diego, committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body, is pleased to announce the search for a senior historian of philosophy who will hold a tenured appointment in the Department of Philosophy (http://philosophy.ucsd.edu/) and be the inaugural holder of the university’s Henry E. Allison Endowed Chair in the History of Philosophy. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2013.

Applications are invited from scholars working in all areas of the history of philosophy from the ancients through Hegel. Candidates must have a Ph.D., an outstanding record of published scholarship in the history of philosophy, and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching. The successful candidate will form part of an active community of researchers in the history of philosophy and is expected to be fully engaged in departmental and university affairs.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.  Proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required prior to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986). Faculty Position(s)

Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment

The Department of Philosophy within the University of California, San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is pleased to announce a search for the position of Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment in Philosophy. The L(P)SOE series has been created for faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on undergraduate education and the scholarship of teaching and learning. It entails membership in the faculty Academic Senate and carries the potential for security of employment after a probationary period, but is distinct from a tenure-track assistant professor appointment. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2013. 

Candidate must have a Ph.D., a strong record of teaching, and the potential for contributions in scholarship or scholarly pedagogy. Candidates will be favored who have teaching expertise in normative and applied ethics, including (but not limited to) one or more of the following: biomedical ethics, environmental ethics, ethics and technology, business ethics, ethics and public policy. The standard teaching load for the position is two undergraduate classes per quarter (for a total of six classes per academic year).
