Especially in the current economic climate, donations allow us to offset the challenges of the budget crisis. Donations also allow us to preserve and develop our research focus in the history of philosophy, the philosophy of science and mind, and moral, political, and legal philosophy.

Previous philanthropic gifts have supported Department of Philosophy initiatives such as:
- The Eric Paul Allison Memorial Prize Endowment, used to help finance the graduate education of a senior in the department who pursues advanced education in Philosophy or a related field. [photo of previous recipient]
- The John Petrou Endowment Fund, used to augment the department library as well as support the publication of our undergraduate capstone journal, Intuitions.
- Endowed Chairs such as the “Henry E. Allison Chair in the History of Philosophy" and the "Valtz Family Chair in Philosophy” which are critical to the advancement of faculty research and raise the overall profile of the department.
Future gifts to the department could support:
- Graduate Students Fellowships, allowing our graduates to focus on research to enhance their education and career prospects.
- A Lecture Series in philosophy with themes of topical interest to the academic and at-large communities.
- An interdisciplinary Center on Science and Values, focusing on the ethical implications of technology and science.
